6. SKILLS:
Analytical:
As a result of the statistical education I had as part of my BSc. Agric. Viticulture and Oenology course, together with the training I received and experience I obtained while working at Distell’s Sensory Department; I have greatly advanced in my analytical abilities. I have acquired the ability to view different points of view objectively before making an appropriate decision as to the solution of a specific problem. I have also improved my skill to use the correct statistical analysis procedures to compile a data set; and to analyse and interpret its results in order to make effective strategic suggestions. During my work that I did at Distell, I have also obtained a greater understanding for the use of statistical analysis programs such as Microsoft EXCELSTAT as well as CompuSense (used especially for Principle Component Analysis and Multi-Component Analysis).
Computer:
During my studies (took Computer Literacy as a subject) as well as during my work period, I have greatly improved my computer skills in order to assist me in scientific research, data capturing, data presentation and interpretation. Specific programs that I have learned to use successfully: Microsoft PowerPoint; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft ExcelStat; Microsoft Word as well as CompuSense.
Interpersonal:
At high school I developed leadership skills since becoming a prefect as well as being a bible-study leader for the juniors. This skill has further been enhanced while studying at Stellenbosch University and being appointed as the group leader of various academic group assignments. I have learned the undeniable value that correct leadership, work delegation and interpersonal assistance in various tasks can add to the success of any project. During my studies and work-experience (in South Africa and the Balearic Islands) I have worked with different personalities in many different environments (and countries). This has improved and enriched my understanding of effective interpersonal relationship skills. I have also had the privilege to learn from experts in the wine industry as well as the marketing industry of South Africa and believe that it is essential to keep contact with mentors and industry connections. I have learned that one should always act professionally and remain calm and objective in any problem-situation and to place oneself in other’s shoes in order to interpret and understand their points of view.
7. INTERESTS:
I enjoy reading innovative marketing and philosophy books and working on my own marketing blog called: No-TEARS Marketing. Furthermore I have a big passion for the outdoors, especially hiking; mountain biking; windsurfing; skiing; camping and running. I also have an appreciation for the arts and play guitar.
